Grid-Backup Inverter-Chargers
In recent years, grid backup inverter-chargers have appeared on the market promising continuous power when the grid is down. ICONICA, RIIO II and TYRANN inverter-chargers draw backup power from a battery, pre-charged from the grid using a built-in charger. Grid-backup Energy Storage Systems (ESS) are useful products during emergencies when DC power pulled from the battery is converted to AC power by an inverter part of the inverter-chargers. They do not synchronise the AC power with the grid and therefore are the economical solution for backup and emergency power solutions. They are effectively a large scale Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for the whole home.
