EARTHING
1. DOES THE ESS NEED EARTHING WHEN USED OFF-GRID?
Yes, the ESS must be earthed when used off-grid. Use the portable earthing kit provided. For off-grid use, an electrician must install the earthing.
BATTERY
1. WHAT IS THE BATTERY CAPACITY OF THE ESS?
The ESS has a LiFePO4 battery capacity of 3,072Wh (120Ah @ 25.6V). Lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO4) have many benefits over other lithium batteries. These include a longer lifespan, no maintenance, better safety, and improved discharge and charge efficiency. Although LiFePO4 batteries are not the cheapest, their long lifespan and zero maintenance offer the best value for money. They are designed to handle high discharge currents, allowing you to use multiple electrical devices simultaneously at home.
2. WHAT IS THE LIFESPAN OF THE BATTERY?
The LiFePO4 battery is designed for more than 2,000 cycles, meaning it has a lifespan of over 10 years.
3. HOW CAN I GET THE LONGEST LIFESPAN FROM THE BATTERY?
Keep the battery within 20–30°C (68–86°F) and away from water and heat. Do not store the ESS above 45°C (113°F) or below −10°C (−14°F) for extended periods. Top off the battery after each use. Avoid fully discharging or overcharging it by leaving it connected to a charger beyond its full charge cycle. To optimise battery performance, limit discharge to 80% of its capacity.
4. WHAT ARE THE BATTERY CARE AND STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS?
Store the battery between -5°C and +35°C. For up to 1 month, storage temperatures can range from -20°C to +60°C. For up to 3 months, store between -10°C and +35°C. Discharge and charge the batteries at least once every 6 months if stored for long periods. Disconnect the battery from mains or solar panels before storing it. LiFePO4 batteries have a low self-discharge rate of 2% per month, so disconnect all power drains. Store LiFePO4 batteries indoors when not in use and at about 50% state of charge (SOC).
5. CAN THE ESS USE AN EXTRA BATTERY?
The 3kWh ESS doesn't support extra batteries.
6. WHEN TO CHARGE MY LiFePO4 BATTERY?
If LiFePO4 batteries are not fully discharged, they do not need charging after each use. They are not damaged by being left in a partial state of charge (PSOC). Charge them after each use or when discharged up to 80% DOD (20% SOC). If the Battery Management System (BMS) disconnects the battery due to low voltage (less than 8V), remove the load and charge immediately. Store the battery at 50% SOC to minimise irreversible capacity loss.
PWM SOLAR CONTROLLER
1. WHAT IS A PWM SOLAR CONTROLLER?
A PWM solar charge controller regulates the battery charging and discharging process in a solar panel/battery system. It controls the charging current from the PV panel to the battery to prevent overcharging. There are two types of solar controllers: MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) and PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). MPPT controllers are more efficient and support 3-stage charging, while PWM controllers are simpler, more reliable, cheaper, but less efficient.
2. HOW DOES A PWM CONTROLLER WORK?
PWM controllers reduce the power going into your battery as it approaches capacity, maintaining a "trickle" state when the battery is full. This is suitable for lithium iron phosphate batteries, keeping them at a float voltage of around 13.6V (3.4V per cell) once fully charged.
3. IS A PWM CONTROLLER RIGHT FOR ME?
A PWM charge controller is a good low-cost solution for small systems when the solar cell temperature is between 45°C and 75°C. To fully exploit an MPPT controller, the array voltage should be much higher than the battery voltage.
4. WHAT ARE THE MAIN SPECIFICATIONS OF THE PWM SOLAR CONTROLLER?
Voltage and current are the main parameters for sizing a solar charge controller. The PWM controller must accept the voltage and current from the solar panels and deliver the proper voltage and current to the battery. The PWM solar controller is sized for 24V and 40A.
AC AND SOLAR CHARGING
1. HOW CAN I CHARGE THE UNIT?
The 3kWh ESS supports mains charging and solar charging, which can be used simultaneously:
-
Mains charging input: AC 220-240V (50Hz)
-
Solar charging input: 900-1400W 30-44V DC, maximum charging current 40A
2. WHAT TO DO IF CHARGING POWER IS LOW?
If the ambient temperature is too high or the battery is too hot to touch, turn off the ESS or stop the load and let it cool down. If the ambient temperature is too low or the battery is too cold to touch, move the ESS to a warmer place and let it heat up before charging. The charging power of the ESS decreases when the battery starts charging from 0% or is about to be fully charged.
3. IS SIMULTANEOUS AC AND SOLAR CHARGING SUPPORTED?
Yes, both AC and solar charging can be performed simultaneously.
4. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHARGE THE ESS FROM OTHER SOURCES (LIKE CAR LIGHTER)?
No, you can only charge using your home grid and/or solar panels.
5. DOES THE SYSTEM SUPPORT AC CHARGING WHILE BEING USED?
No, this option is not available.
6. WHY WOULD THE ESS NOT TURN ON?
Check if the battery is sufficiently charged. If the battery is discharged, charge the battery and turn it on again. If charging fails, follow the instructions on charging failures. If there is no response after pressing the Power Button for 1 second, contact Energian Customer Service.
7. WHAT TO DO IF NO CHARGING OCCURS?
Possible causes:
-
The charge temperature is too high or too low. The charge temperature range for the ESS is between 0℃ and 45℃. If you have used the ESS with high wattage appliances for a long time, let it cool down before charging. If the ambient temperature is too low, move the ESS to a warmer place and let it heat up before charging.
-
The charging voltage or current is too low. Charge the device according to the specified standards.
-
Change the charging method or cable. If solar charging isn't working, the solar panel or MC4 cable may be faulty. Try another MC4 cable or a different solar panel. If none of these solutions work, contact Energian Customer Service and provide a video of the charging problem.
3KWH ESS OUTPUT POWER
1. WHAT ARE THE ESS OUTPUTS?
The 3kWh ESS supports three output methods: AC output, USB output, and 12V DC output, providing a total of 10 output ports:
-
AC output port: 2 ports, 1500W max, 220V AC 50Hz each
-
USB-A port: 4 ports, 20W max, 5V DC 1A each
-
DC5521 port: 4 ports, 240W max, 12V DC 5A each
-
Important: The total AC + DC load should not exceed 1500W.
2. IS THE 100% PURE SINE WAVE USED IN THE ESS OUTPUT?
Yes, the ESS has a pure sine wave AC output with a harmonic rate as low as 3%.
3. WHAT ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES ARE SUPPORTED BY THE ESS?
The 3kWh ESS supports appliances with a rated power within the 1500W power range. The rated power can be found in the user manual, on the nameplate, please also check the start-up (surge) power.
4. WHAT TO DO IF THE ESS CANNOT POWER ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES?
Check if the output power of the ESS meets the charging power requirements of your appliances. If an alarm code appears on the LCD screen, follow the User Manual (Section 7) instructions.
5. WHAT TO DO IF THE USAGE TIME OF AN ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE IS TOO SHORT?
The actual usage time may be shorter than theoretical due to discharge efficiency being less than 100%. Calculate discharge efficiency based on the continuous power of your appliances. If you have any questions, provide the specifications of your appliances to Energian Customer Service for a calculation.
6. WHAT TO DO IF THE LOSS OF POWER OF THE ESS IS TOO QUICK?
Check if high-power electrical appliances are connected. The battery capacity is 3072Wh. Normally, if a connected appliance uses ~1000W, the battery will discharge from 100% to 20% in about 2.5 hours.
7. WHAT TO DO IF NO OUTPUT OCCURS FROM USB-A PORTS?
Try a different USB-A port and confirm if it is just a single port issue. Replace the USB cable to check if it is faulty. If there is still no output, provide a video explaining the fault and contact Energian Customer Service.
SOLAR PANEL CHARGING
1. WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM SOLAR CHARGING INPUT TO THE ESS?
Solar charging input is 900-1400W, 30-44V DC, 40A (maximum).
2. HOW QUICKLY WILL JA SOLAR 380W PANELS CHARGE THE ESS?
In optimal conditions (clear skies, direct sunlight, proper orientation and tilting), a 380W solar panel will fully charge the ESS in about 8–10 hours.
3. DOES THE SYSTEM SUPPORT SOLAR CHARGING WHILE IT IS BEING USED?
Yes, the ESS supports charging and discharging while using solar panels. However, if the battery is low, avoid charging devices when using DC (solar) charging. If the power input is less than or equal to the output power, the device may lose power and potentially damage the battery.
4. HOW TO CONNECT SOLAR PANELS - IN SERIES OR PARALLEL?
Connect solar panels in parallel if the total voltage and current do not exceed 30-44V and 40A. Avoid using solar panels with different wattages.
5. WHAT TO DO IF SOLAR PANELS DO NOT WORK?
Solar panels must be used outdoors. If they do not work, check the connection method and cables. Ensure the voltage and current are within 30-44V and 40A, and check if the positive and negative poles are correctly connected.
6. WHAT IS THE OUTPUT POWER OF THE SOLAR PANEL IN VARIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS?
- Sunny weather: About 80% of the rated power (e.g., a 380W panel will output about 320W).
- Cloudy (May-July): 65-105W.
- Cloudy (other months): 18-30W. Solar charging is not recommended as it may damage the battery.
- Rainy days and night: 0W. Do not connect to solar panels for charging as it may drain the battery and reduce its lifespan.
7. WHY IS THE CHARGING POWER OF MY SOLAR PANEL SO LOW?
The charging power depends on sunlight intensity and angle. Use the solar panel between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm when sunlight is strongest. Avoid using it on cloudy days from August to April or in shady places. Place the solar panel at a 90° angle to the sunlight for maximum efficiency.EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY (EPS) MODE
1. WHAT IS THE EPS MODE?
When your ESS is plugged into a wall socket, devices connected to it are powered from the grid, not the battery. In EPS mode, if the battery power is between 97% and 100%, the AC input will not charge the battery. If the power is below 97%, the AC input will charge the battery and act as a bypass output. During a blackout, the ESS switches to battery power within 4ms.
2. IS EPS MODE THE SAME AS UPS (UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY) FUNCTION?
The ESS has a non-universal UPS function and is used only as an EPS. When grid power is connected to the AC Input Port, devices are powered through the AC Output Port from the grid, not the battery. In a blackout, the ESS switches to battery power within 4ms. This basic UPS function does not support 0ms switching. Do not connect the ESS to devices requiring 0ms UPS, such as data servers and workstations. Test and confirm compatibility before use. Charge one device at a time to avoid overload.
